Our protein powders Future Nutrition range Why do we need protein? Without protein, our bodies can’t function properly. Nutritional guidelines recommend that, as a general rule, between 10-15% of a person’s total calories should come from protein. It is a critical component in a number of physiological processes. Our bodies are made up of millions of cells, which are being replaced all the time. Our nerves, tissues and bones are all made up of proteins. It is therefore important for maintaining muscle and bone mass, for tissue and cell repair, for keeping the immune system strong and for preventing fatigue. Protein for the healthy growth of skin, hair and nails Athletics, body-building and training Any sort of training or stress on the body will increase the amount of protein required. If you don’t get the quantity and quality of protein needed, it can lead to loss of muscle tissue, reduced immune system, slower recovery times and lower energy levels. If your personal health goal is to gain muscle, increase strength and/or reduce body, supplementing your regular diet with extra protein is recommended. Vegetarians and vegans It can also be a challenge to get enough protein into a vegetarian or vegan diet. One of the best ways to do this is to eat multiple servings of legume-based foods each day. A common problem is that, often, vegetarians and vegans do not take in enough protein. Similarly, unless their diets are carefully planned, it is easy for them to become deficient in any number of nutrients - not everyone likes legumes! Weight management A number of research studies have suggested that a high-protein diet, combined with exercise, can support the weight management process, enhance fat loss and improve muscle tone and blood fat levels. As mentioned above, protein can assist in the repair and growth of muscle. This, in turn, leads to more calories being burned each day. Higher-protein diets may also help people to gain better control over their appetites and calorie intake, as well as help to regulate blood sugar levels and reduce cravings. Everyone knows that the slimming process can be a challenge. Most weight management programmes involve limited food choice and a reduction in calories. This can sometimes lead to a nutrient-deficient diet, if the slimmer is not careful. For those who want to reduce their calorie (and fat and sugar) intake, but nevertheless wish to ensure that they are getting an appropriate amount of vitamins, minerals and nutrients every day, protein powders and/or meal replacements could be the answer. However, such dietary supplements ought to be sugar and, ideally, dairy and gluten free - as our are! Our protein powders Our protein powders provide a fantastic source of protein, whether to boost the nutritional content of a vegetarian or vegan diet or to support the body during times of intense training or sensible slimming. Whatever your particular health goal, you can ensure that you are getting all of the protein, vitamins and minerals that you need on a daily basis. Best of all, all of our protein powders are free from genetically modified ingredients, gluten, dairy and lactose, soya, pesticides, herbicides, additives and preservatives!
